DIGITAL CINEMA MEDIA PRESENTATION
Our presentation for Digital Cinema Media (Cineworld and Odeon) is now online, if anyone fancies checking it out (there are no film clips in the online version, though we can also make these available if you want to see them too). Called Diving In, we presented this work at DCM’s Bigger Picture conference in the autumn.
Using online communities, ethnography, expert interviews and social media tracking, the study takes an in-depth look at the relationship between young people and the cinema, exploring what’s changing – not to mention what remains as relevant now as in the 1950s and the first heyday of the teenager and the cinema – in doing so identifying cinema’s role as a unifying force in an otherwise increasingly fragmented cultural world for young people. DCM’s primary use of the research was to highlight the benefits of advertising to young people at the cinema; with secondary benefits being to enhance the cinema experience itself for young people.
