We’re On The Move

It's never easy leaving somewhere as iconic as the Tea Building, but it helps when you're moving to a nice new space just up the road in Hoxton Square - one which gives us bags more room and will allow us to try out a few new things in-house...

We’ll be able to run workshop events and viewed groups in our own space. And, at last, we’ll be able to swing a cat in the kitchen area. Of course, it will look a lot better with stuff like people and desks in it, but if pics of empty office spaces are your thing, here goes…

We look onto the square
We look onto the square

And if you turn around it looks like this
And if you turn around it looks like this

New Hires & Promotions

Here's some new people to introduce. And some 'old people' in new roles...

It’s been a busy time for changes at Crowd DNA, with a mix of new recruits and promotions. Here’s the low-down.

Laura Warby joins us as a senior consultant from Tonic. She’s launched straight into work for Channel 4 and Sony Music.

Milly Derbyshire, meanwhile, has come on board as a consultant. Previously at Added Value, she’s getting busy on our Peroni Agenda account, plus providing jolly good thinking around semiotics and culture codes for a new piece we’re pitching for

Sarah Brierley has been promoted to business and strategy director, taking a lead on all things from client relations and project design, to developing new IP and, obviously, communicating just how utterly ace an agency we are

Will Moxham joins Sarah on the commercial side of things, making the switch from exec to client services consultant

Aurelie Jamard has been promoted to associate director, heading up our innovation lab – via which we make our Crowd In and Crowd Out approaches available to clients

That’s it for now, but several more new recruits on the horizon. Time for a bigger office – and we’re working on that, too.

New Roles At Crowd DNA

Here’s a round up of new roles we’re recruiting for at Crowd DNA - all designed to put us in a good place for ambitious growth plans and for a flurry of exciting global projects, in which culture and strategy, better thinking and powerful storytelling, all come together as a well formed one...

TRENDS & CONTENT DIRECTOR (LONDON)

We’re recruiting for a director to head up a newly formed trends and content wing. This is a key role in an exciting agency – tailor-made for a commercially focused, creatively minded individual who’s looking for a unique challenge and to adopt a start up mentality. Find our more here

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR/SENIOR DIRECTOR  (QUAL, LONDON)

We’re seeking a senior end hire to join our insight and innovation team, taking a key role in leading our most significant projects, with a focus on first rate team and client management, a receptivity to developing new methods and approaches, input on business development and a natural flair for inspiring others, creating powerful stories and grappling with fascinating challenges at the intersection of business and culture.

SENIOR CONSULTANT/ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR (QUANT, LONDON)

Associate director and senior consultant roles at Crowd DNA for those passionate about managing fascinating and challenging multi-market work for an exceptional range of clients. The associate director role include hands-on method work and team management, with a leaning towards the latter; and vice versa for the senior consultant role. Both require a tangible enthusiasm for presenting work in highly compelling ways, combining creativity with strong business problem solving skills.

INSIGHT & INNOVATION EXECUTIVE (AMSTERDAM)

An entry level role in our Amsterdam office for someone who demonstrates a passion for/willingness to learn about insight and strategy, with a likely focus on desk research, trends work and assisting on business development. Work experience – either paid or interning – within the broader marketing/comms field would be a definite advantage, as would an enthusiasm for brands, media, innovation and how culture impacts on that lot! This is an exciting opportunity for a self starter who’s keen to learn quickly and take ownership of new challenges.

VARIOUS! (SAN FRANCISCO)

Following our successful launch in Amsterdam, we’re now set on opening Crowd DNA in the US, and in San Francisco specifically. We’re keen to start conversations with those who we may be able to work with – by which we mean potential recruits (at all levels of experience/seniority), freelancers, suppliers, partner companies and assorted specialists. Yes, we know, we’re not exactly narrowing things down there, but now’s the time to cast a wide net.

All roles come with competitive salaries and a range of further benefits. Get in touch with a CV

Cultural insights and innovation specialists Crowd DNA are recruiting for a director to head up a newly formed trends and content wing. This is a key role in an exciting agency - tailor-made for a commercially focused, creatively minded individual who's looking for a unique challenge and to adopt a start up mentality...

The role entails managing a team of four (and growing!) trends and content specialists, plus outside suppliers/freelancers; leading live projects, ensuring best practice across the team, playing an active role in business development; working alongside Crowd DNA’s managing director and business and strategy director on developing the trends and content offer; also collaborating with Crowd DNA’s other senior directors on planning company-wide strategy

Areas of focus for the trends and content team, and thus for the director to provide a lead on, are as follows –

Trends work – pinpointing relevant trends for clients and demonstrating their strategic relevance; with workshops and presentations as core deliverables but also a focus on disrupting industry norms, and devising new ways to monetise trends work

Cross team services – enhancing the work of our insight & innovation wing, through creating high quality project outputs and integrating trends into their work

Content creation – producing multi-form content (digital, print. film, events etc) to amplify our clients’ understanding of audiences and trends, empowering them to socialise the work across their businesses

Self funded initiatives – creating trends and content assets to promote Crowd DNA

New ventures/joint ventures – exploring and developing new opportunities, such as syndicated, subscription and sponsorship models, partnerships/JVs and other ways to create and disseminate trends and content in the B2B space

Who are you? As this role is very much at the intersection of different skillsets, we will keep an open mind on this one, but it’s likely you currently work somewhere in the content creation, editorial or trends fields. You will probably have some line management experience and a track record of contributing to business development. Even if you haven’t got hands-on with insight or innovation methods, we anticipate you will have a working knowledge of these areas and, of course, an enthusiasm to learn more. Most importantly, you are the type of person who’s not afraid to be starting with a near blank sheet of paper; someone with a tangible appetite for growing things, for enduring the occasional knocks that are sure to come with such a challenge, and the type of agile thinking and adaptability that’s bound to be needed.

In return, we can offer a competitive salary and bonus package, and the chance to work with a fantastic team and for equally fantastic clients. The more you can grow the trends and content wing, the more your role will also grow; with scope to expand the offering to our Amsterdam office and planned US launch.

New Roles Galore

Here’s a round up of new roles we’re recruiting for at Crowd DNA - all designed to put us in a good place for ambitious growth plans in 2015, and for a flurry of exciting global projects, in which culture and strategy, better thinking and powerful storytelling, all come together as a well formed one...

BUSINESS & STRATEGY DIRECTOR (LONDON)

A role for someone who wishes to combine their passion for insight, trends and innovation with a business focus. This is a position for someone who displays an enthusiasm for driving Crowd DNA forwards from a commercial perspective, embracing all points from lead generation and pitches, to how we position the agency and what, over time, we want it to become. While this role of course demands someone with a thirst for winning business, it will best suit a person who treats this as a creative process as much as a sales process; and, importantly, someone aligned with the culture of Crowd DNA.

Collaboration is key in this role – both in terms of working alongside other members of the senior team and managing others; as is an enthusiasm for designing brilliant approaches to the insight and innovation challenges that our first rate clients put to us. It’s an exciting role which offers scope to be carved out to your own definition, taking a lead place in planning a dynamic future for this highly regarded agency.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR (LONDON)

A senior role at Crowd DNA for someone passionate about managing multi-market projects and teams (yes, you would get hands-on with fieldwork too, at times, but we view that as a secondary part of the spec). First rate qual and trends skills are vital, as is an enthusiasm for presenting work in highly compelling ways and a genuine grasp of youth culture (we see this role as being particularly focused on Gen Y and Z work).

You’re most likely in an RM type role at present and looking for the next challenge. We reckon you love workshop environments and bringing energy to how insights and strategic recommendations are presented to clients. You would operate as one of three ADs reporting in to Crowd DNA’s insight and innovation director.

QUAL SENIOR CONSULTANT/CONSULTANT (LONDON)

A role for someone who’s experienced with qual work at competent SRE through to mid level RM standing; who has a good spectrum of online and offline method experience; but, just as importantly, who’s confident at building strategic recommendations from research and at sharing them with clients in attention grabbing ways; who can take a confident lead on projects – and also work fluidly as part of a team.

Per project, you will report in to one of Crowd DNA’s ADs and, as with all roles here, there’s good scope for career development. We guarantee you exciting and – in the right way! – challenging briefs to tackle; a definite sense that what you’re working on is more than research-by-numbers, all conducted in an empowering, creative, highly collaborative working environment.

QUANT CONSULTANT/EXEC (LONDON)

A role for someone who’s either a focused new starter to quant work, or with some experience under their belt (specifics of the role and the salary offer will vary accordingly), we’re looking for someone who’s passionate about working with data and keen to spot the possibilities for storytelling and bringing a cultural relevance to the work.

You’ll get to work on exciting projects for big global brands, collaborating with others (across quant, qual, trends and innovation), presenting to clients and experimenting with new ideas. There’s good scope for career development as well, in this fast growing business.

Hello USA

Following our successful launch in Amsterdam, Crowd DNA intends to set up shop in the US in 2015, building on our burgeoning track record there with clients in the tech, media/social media, entertainment, FMCG and retail sectors (also lots of work with creative agencies, digital agencies etc)...

San Francisco is our most likely base camp and we’re keen to start conversations with those who we may be able to work with – by which we mean potential recruits (at all levels of experience/seniority), freelancers, suppliers, partner companies and assorted specialists. Yes, we know, we’re not exactly narrowing things down there, but now’s the time to cast a wide net. To discuss Crowd DNA’s launch in the US further, please email Andy Crysell

Kling Klang-ery!

Kling Klang* glory, this quarter, goes to one of our consultants, Alice Ellen. She picks it up for very fine work masterminding a project for one of our alcohol clients; also for great endeavours in debrief design and for truly flying the flag for our cultural strategy ethos. Big well dones, then, to Alice...

*The Kling Klangs, just in case they’re not quite globally famous yet, are Crowd DNA’s awards for the greatest of the great of our bloody great team.

Insight and innovation agency Crowd DNA is looking to make a senior appointment in 2015, bringing on board a new business and strategy director to play a lead role collaborating closely with the managing director and management team in the UK (also working with senior staff in our Amsterdam office, with further overseas offices on schedule for launch in 2015 as well)...

The primary focus of the role is on selling the Crowd DNA offering as effectively as possible: from pitches and the pipeline, to co-developing the longer term strategy and making sure that this remains an exciting, innovative business fully in tune with the ever changing needs of the marketplace.

While we’re of course keen to speaking to people with experience in the insight and innovation industry, we are also open to meeting with those who bring experience from different fields in marketing comms, media etc. It’s absolutely vital to be commercially minded and to truly enjoy the challenges of winning business, but an outright sales Rottweiler is not what we need – this is as much about problem solving, collaboration and creative thinking as ‘sealing the deal’. And thus while we do anticipate speaking with people currently in business development/commercial roles, we are also open to those with the right type of experience on other fronts who wish to make a switch into a more commercial space.

The Pipeline

We’ll call it the pipeline because that’s the standard industry language, though we like to consider it a more rounded, less mechanical responsibility. But whatever we call it, we need someone who can handle the sales process in a manner that’s aligned with Crowd DNA’s business culture: energetically and purposefully but with a primary focus on getting us speaking to the right type of brands and in the right type of ways; i.e., we don’t view this as simply a numbers games; we want to put ourselves in a place to win lots of work, of course, but we also want to make sure we’re winning the work that adds value to the culture of Crowd DNA. We therefore seek someone who demonstrates a genuine enthusiasm for understanding what makes brands tick and for relating to the challenges they face.

Proposals & Pitches

You will take the lead on writing proposals – often as the main author of them; sometimes overseeing the work of others. We view proposal writing as a creative proposition, about brilliant project design – we want exciting ideas, stimulating upfront thinking, bold solutions and lots of energy; we don’t want cut and paste rehashes or a reliance on templates. We get given incredibly exciting challenges from brands in sectors such as social media/media, tech, FMCG, entertainment and retail, and we need someone willing to dive head first into these challenges. While you will be taking the lead, this is a collaborative process: we want someone with an ability to manage others and involve them in the business development process in a way that is meaningful and has impact. No small additional point: you’ll need a bright and lively writing style and a strong sense of how to present work in a visually stimulating fashion.

Attention To The Details

There’s no escaping the need to have a good head for the details: costing things carefully, managing disparate timelines, effective hand over of new work to the project teams in a fashion that provides them with the information they need to deliver the work both with inspiration and on budget.

Strategic Thinking

This is by no means just about the business we win this month, nor the meetings we set up next month. We want someone who is open to change and innovation, both on a more micro level (new methods, new sectors) and the more macro (will Crowd DNA still be best termed as an insight and innovation business in, say, five years time or will it have morphed into something different?). We’re looking for someone to have a big impact on the business in this sense – helping us stay exciting and culturally enriching for our team and bold and commercially relevant to clients.

Understanding The Business

Crowd DNA has an entrepreneurial mindset and we need you to have one too. Like all good businesses we have a culture that needs learning, methods that need getting to grips with. We cannot overstate the importance of finding someone who can demonstrate that they are on the right wavelength for working at Crowd DNA.

We offer a competitive package and the chance to have a big impact on a business that’s fresh, exciting and primed for further growth. To get the ball rolling, please respond with a covering letter, CV and, ideally, examples of your work that you believe relevant, to Andy Crysell
